LOOKING BACK AT 2007

Here is a look at some of the highlights from the new release updates of 2007. These are items that sold well, or that stood out from the crowd (I'll cut out singles, just so this huge list isn't TOO huge). So, don't complain that there wasn't any fun new synthpop in 2007. I'm sure there is plenty here for any taste!

James D. Stark "Music of the Night" $14 -- The newest album from darkwave / romantic synthpop artist James D. Stark is now available! Samples from the songs on the album should be up soon on our homepage (you will see them by clicking on the album title, once they are available). This latest album still has tinges of the Depeche Mode influence heard on the previous releases, but seems to do a better job of establishing James' own sound, with lighter, airier vocals. He's doing a good job of establishing himself and his own style on this latest release. Lyrical themes focus strongly on love, passion, and desire.

Sero.Overdose "Heading for Tomorrow" $20 -- The third album from this synthpop / futurepop act continues to build on the solid reputation already created on the past releases. There is a nice blend of more tradidtional synthpop songs along with the club-thumping dance tracks. Thankfully, the singer sticks to his melodic style, unafraid to hit the high notes and travel where few futurepop vocalists dare. It just makes the album more appealing when the singer is able to cover a large range of sounds and styles without resorting to special-effect filters or deep-throated droning. OK, so maybe it's my own personal taste, but I like the sound Sero.Overdose has come up with, probably because it makes them sound more "synthpop" and less "industrial" ;-)

Virtual Server "Setup LTD" (limited 2CD) $14 -- After an impressive collection of collaborative songs on the first album, "Installed", producer DJ Ram is back with a new Virtual Server collection, featuring songs recorded over a period of three years. The assembly of guest vocalists is even more impressive this time around, and the exciting songs are perfect for fans of synthpop and electronic dance music fans around the world. The songs feature vocalists from bands like Iris, Psyche, Rename, Wave In Head, Distain, Assemblage 23, Colony 5, Echo Image, P24, and Color Theory. The limited edition includes a bonus disc packed with 17 remixes that were selected as "winners" from the remix contest held last year, plus a bonus song with guest vocals by Syrian.

Neuropa "The Blitz" $14 -- Neuropa presents their 5th studio album, complete with the foot-tapping, memorable tunes that fans have come to expect. Bouncy synthpop beats combine with new wave attitude and a somewhat darker modern edge, to create an album that fits as well into the current scene as it would fit among the classic hits of the 80's. Few bands can create music that so smoothly combines the electronic pop of the past and the present.

Ultaviolet "Dos" $12 -- This second album by Ultraviolet builds on the band's passionate sound, combining an electronic backdrop that rises and falls perfectly with the lyrics of love and war. While Ultraviolet is often compared to other popular synthpop bands, they build upon that solid foundation while creating a melodic, emotional sound that gives this rising act a solid identity of their own.

Technoir "Deliberately Fragile" $20 -- It has been several years since the debut album of Technoir started turning heads and winning hearts. They finally return with a strong follow-up album that combines throbbing synth music with the beautiful vocals of Julia Beyer. It's danceable, it's intense, but also ultra-catchy with great pop sense in the vocal performance and will have you wanting to sing along. Note: We will have the limited edition in stock soon.

Various Artists "Elektrisch 2" (limited 2CD) $24 -- The second volume of this impressive compilation series is perhaps even more stunning than the first, with many exclusive mixes from top bands in the scene. There are tracks by Alphaville, Camouflage, Neuropa, Client, X-Perience, Boytronic, Mesh, Assemblage 23, Lowe, Iris, Code 64, Celluloide, and more! You can see the tracklist here: ]]>http://www.adifferentdrum.com/artist.php?n=356-0224-023]]>

Melotron "Propaganda" $20 -- Melotron is one of the premier German-language synthpop bands in the scene, having released several successful albums over the last 10 years. Now they are back with a very strong new offering, blending lush, atmospheric synthpop with driving beats, pulsing synths and emotional, polished vocals. For fans who love their past works, this album will not disappoint. Plus, if you'd like a little surprise, they try an English language song called "Broken" which actually worked out quite well. Plus, this edition of the album features a bonus CD-Rom video track for the single, "Das Herz".

Celluloide "Passion & Excitements" $20 -- This new album from the French act Celluloide continues to build on the band's reputation for bouncy, hypnotic, classic synthpop music. The female vocalist once again presents her melodic yet dead-pan approach that makes for a fun contrast with the lively bleeps and beats that create the musical backdrop.

Mark Nicholas "Duchess 33" $14 -- This is the new album release from the man behind COSMICITY, as he takes a different approach on his new songs. Though Mark continues to show a knack for pop songs, he takes an edgy turn on this new project, pulling in elements from the industrial, electronica, and nu-electro scenes, with fuzzed vocal affects and gritty synths. The album design presents a photo of Mark caught sleeping with his synthesizer, with the print "dirty electronic shocker!" and the album comes tagged with a "Parental Advisory" for explicit lyrics. Between the songs and the design, you may wonder if Mark Nicholas is aiming for a dirty new image, or just playing with his almost "Weird Al" comedic sentiments-- and I think the answer is "both". Check out the samples by clicking on the album title on A Different Drum's homepage.

Syrian "Alien Nation" $14 -- Syrian presents the next chapter in their onslaught of ultra-danceable, irresistably edgy, futuristic themed albums! "Alien Nation" is purhaps the band's most diverse effort so far, blending in some crunchy guitar sounds and throbbing industrial beats along with their established trance-influenced club sounds and synthpop melodies. The songs explore visions of the future, both hopeful and fearful. The album includes a unforgettable club anthem featuring a duet with Alphaville's dynamic vocalist, Marian Gold.

Angels and Agony "Unison" $15 -- We now have the domestic release for the new Angels & Agony album which again presents melodic, dramatic futurepop music that fits nicely into both the synthpop / futurepop scene and the industrial dance club market. Personally, though it may be formulaic futurepop, I think its quality and strength fits right in with the big names in the scene, like Covenant, Assemblage 23, and VNV Nation.

The Brothers Martin "The Brothers Martin" $15 -- Ronnie from the band Joy Electric joins his brother who is active in the indie rock scene to put together an ultra-catchy, instant classic album for those who like a catchy pop sound that combines synths and guitars just perfectly. Sounding like many of the popular acts of the 80's, including New Order, I think they will appeal to many fans of the retro flavor as well as modern fans. Check out one of the cool songs from the album right here: ]]>http://www.myspace.com/brosmartin]]>

Marsheaux "Peeka-Boo" $16 -- This fun-loving, catchy female synthpop act from Greece presents their second full album, full of bleepy, bouncy synths and sweet vocals. It includes a nice cover version of the song "The Promise" by When In Rome, plus some other top-notch originals.

OneTwo "Instead" $22 -- This collaborative effort between Paul Humphreys of OMD, and Claudia Brucken of Propaganda and ACT is finally available! The album has a wonderful blend of chilled-out tracks that blend Claudia's unique voice with atmospheric synths and piano, along with some really catchy, danceable synth tracks that bring on the bounce. All in all, I think it's a beautiful album that truly spotlight the talent of these two veteran musicians.

Hopeless "Believe" $16 -- Here is a top-notch dark synthpop release from Argentina which blends dark vocals, danceable, edgy electronics. There is a nice combination of the futurepop-style deep vocals and some really nice melodic choruses and a couple of emotional mid-tempo songs. This is from the label that brought us the latest Nekrodamus album, and the style is quite similar. There is also a very interesting and pleasantly surprising cover of Madonna's hit "Frozen" with the intense modern synth sounds and the dramatic male vocals.

Melmoth "Living for the Kingdom's Will" $16 -- This is another import from Argentina, featuring a nice blend of electronic music, pulsing beats, and the combination of dark male vocals and semi-operatic female vocals. They create a sound that fits quite well with popular European acts like L'ame Immortal or The Dust of Basement, where the combination of male and female voices creates a semi-gothic or darkwave mood, while keeping some club appeal and melodic synthpop elements as well.

Days of Fate "Traffic" $20 -- These guys have been around the synthpop underground in Germany and Switzerland for quite a while, though they've not become one of the better-known bands on this side of the ocean. Perhaps that notoriety will change with the release of this new album which has some really strong tracks that carry a musical hint of Mesh, with passion and dramatic flare.

Syntphonic "Unified" (EP) $12 -- This is a new synthpoppy band with some really bouncy, fun songs, introducing their sound on this 6-track CD. This release is brought to us from the Calxy Records label and appears to be the vocalist from the older label band called Condition One. He has a nice, melodic vocal approach which fits the clubby, uptempo, uplifting sound of this new project very well.

Vitriol "Requiem for a Tortured Soul" $20 -- Here is another promising synthpop release from the Calyx Records label in Germany, with a nice, catchy sound that seems to blend some very nice elements from the classic synthpop pioneers, along with some modern elements that keep it fresh.

Diorama "A Different Life" $20 -- Presenting their 5th album, this top notch synth-goth act has always done a great job of blending uptempo electronics with a brooding vocal sound and somewhat gothic mood. Ok, I'll say it... "darkwave". Well, this latest album actually seems more uptempo overall, with several clubby tracks, though it is not without a couple of nice, dramatic ballads. It's a well produced, solid album that builds on the band's already growing reputation.

Various Artists "Advanced Electronics 5" (2CD+DVD) $30 -- This fifth installment of another very popular series is packed with not only the usual 2-disc collection of electronic mayhem, but also features an extra DVD loaded with videos from bands like In Strict Confidence, Front 242, Funker Vogt, Mesh, Conetik, X-Perience, Camouflage, and more! That's 34 audio tracks and 19 videos! Wow! The style ranges from synthpop to futurepop to industrial, and electro. There's a little of everything from the electronic underground on here. See our homepage for a complete track list by clicking on the title.

VNV Nation "Judgement" $15 -- The futurepop juggernaut is back with another thumping album of energy and emotion. These guys never fail to reach into different directions when it comes to the electronic realm, with touches of raving electronica, industrial, and melodic synthpop with their signature vocals.

Client "Heartland" $15 -- The somewhat minimal, pulsing electronic sound of Client is back with this new album, now available at the US domestic price, with several songs that have been released as singles, including "Drive", "Lights Go Out", and "Zerox Machine".

Joy Electric "The Otherly Opus" $15 -- Ronnie Martin is back with his trademark synthesizer sound, complete with plenty of buzzing, bleeping, and catchy hooks with his quirky vocal approach that has won thousands of loyal fans across the land. It's heavenly for those with a taste for pure, old-school electronics and a light, fluffy sound with a bizarre personality and interestingly uplifting lyrics.

Assemblage 23 "Meta" $15 -- This newest album once again fuses together some edgy industrial dance with some melodic, dark synthpop, where choruses stand out and intricate beats keep it moving along at a steady pace. Fans should be pleased with this latest installment by the one of the scene's popular bands.

Decades "Secrecy" $16 -- Germany is a synthpop Mecca and Decades is one of the bands that continues to embrace that fact, blending their pulsing synths, electronic rhythms, and melodic vocals, and a tasteful touch of guitar in a way that recalls some of the new wavers of the past.

Pristina "Stars and Sirens" $12 -- I should mention that the limited 2CD edition of Pristina's debut album is officially sold out. We don't have anymore, though there may still be a few remnants floating around in other retailers like Amazon.com or industrial-music.com or wherever. But they went fast, and now we have the regular edition of the album available. It's a couple bucks cheaper, and features all-new artwork. So, you can still get this landmark, beautiful album, produced by Joey Belville of The Echoing Green, and featuring wonderful vocals by Alicia Luma, Sarah Masen, Chrissy Jeter, Monica Schroeder, and Anita Robinson.

Limelight "PO Angle Sky" $16 -- This is an excellent synthpop import from Russia, and the band sings primarily in English too, with a sound that obviously pulls its influences from Depeche Mode, Camouflage, and other melancholy synth superstars. The songs are well crafted and well performed, though the accent can get thick in places. So kick back and absorb a quality synthpop band that you probably hadn't heard of before. If you want to check out some samples, just go to www.adifferentdrum.com and look up the band Limelight and then click on the album title to see the tracks and hear MP3 snippets.

Space March "Without This You Can Never Change" $14 -- There has been quite a bit of anticipation for this album from the Australian act since A Different Drum started handing out our latest promo CD that featured a song. Some of the songs have a semi brit-pop feel with some guitar added in, while other songs pump up the electronics and provide something like an old-school OMD sound.

The Legends "Facts and Figures" $16 -- This new Swedish release comes from a melodic, light synthpop act that pulls in some heavy influences from the early 80's sound, while blending in elements of the modern nu-electro scene. I think some of the songs are ultra catchy and will appeal to the old-school synthpop fans who like a high, floaty male vocalist.

Escape With Romeo "Emotional Iceage" (2CD) $20 -- I've enjoyed this neo-new wave band for the last few years, and though it was rumored that the were going to quit, alas, here is another new album. Again they play a mix of synths and new-wave style guitars, lush with atmospheric strings, quirky lyrics, and half-whispered vocals. But this album is more uptempo than many of their past albums, even adding a little extra edge that will probably appeal to the modern synth scene. I'd venture to say that this is their album which will be the most successful so far-- very good thing they didn't quit!

Necessary Response "Blood Spills Not Far From the Wound"
$15 -- This is a surprising release that was pointed out to me by a couple of good customers (with good taste). This is a definite hit for fans of Assemblage 23, with a hint of VNV Nation and Icon of Coil. Yes, it has that pumped up futurepop, hard synthpop club sound, with a good vocalist that presents a sound very similar to the more melodic vocal tracks by Assemblage 23. The choruses are quite catchy for this genre and I think it will become a favorite in the scene as it catches on and people hear about it (like I just did).

Jens Bader "Second to None"
$16 -- This is an excellent independent release, imported from Germany, featuring some really sharp song writing, emotional synthpop songs, with a touch of new wave flavor (some nicely placed guitars) and quality production. I was first introduced to Jens Bader through Reagan, the vocalist for the band Iris, who has become a big fan.

Obscenity Trial "Daydream" (EP) $10 -- Another promising synthpop band from Germany has recently appeared on the scene, and this is Obscenity Trial's new 10-track CD featuring several new songs, and bonus remixes. The title song, "Daydream" can be heard on A Different Drum's pop-up synthpop sampler if you just hit www.adifferentdrum.com and allow the pop-up player to open. This CD features 4 version of that song, including mixes by And One, Spetsnaz, and Andrew Sega of Iris, plus a video track. Then there are some other songs which range from gritty and dark to catchy and sweet. The band is well rounded in their musical approach.

Obscenity Trial "Here and Now" $15 -- This is the debut album from Obscenity Trial, which now has a lower, domestic price if you'd like to pick it up! We've worked out a good deal to offer these to A Different Drum customers at a lower price.

Rupesh Cartel "The Disco and the What Not LTD"
(2CD) $14 -- The smashing second album from this ultra-catchy, lyrical synthpop act is now available in the USA, complete with a bonus disc packed with clubby remixes of several album songs, plus a couple exclusive songs only found on the limited edition. The album features one memorable song after another, and as you listen, you'll find new favorites each time through.

Schmoof "The Glamour" $15 -- This quirky synthpop band from the UK plays a light, bubbly, sassy sound that reminds me a lot of Freezepop, including the plastic look and simple female vocals that border on the humorous. They have fun playing with the 80's glam approach and are not affraid to let the old-school synthesizers stand out
in the lead.

Anything Box "Future Past" (EP) $12 -- This exciting new release from Anything Box revisits some of the classics in all-new versions, including a Spanish-language version of "Carmen"! There are several remixes worth getting your hands on, like new versions of "Soul On Fire", "Living In Oblivion" and "Where is Love and Happiness". It's all synthpop, all club friendly, and shines a light back on the Anything Box we all know and love.

Fake the Envy "Blind" $14 -- This is the very solid second album from Fake The Envy, playing classic Depeche Mode-influenced synthpop that fits right in with the German and Swedish synthpop sound that was so prominent during the 90's (think of KieTheVez, Perfidious Words, etc.). It's well performed, emotional, melancholy, and will boost the band's profile as more people discover their music.

The Garland Cult "Protect Yourself from Hollywood" (2CD) $10 -- The Garland Cult is a side project of members from the synthpop act Empire State Human, with a lot of production and artistic contribution John Giacobello from the act Count to Infinity. The music is upbeat and sounds very familiar to Empire State Human's previous album works, perhaps with a little more "glam" feel and some quirky dance arrangements. There is a very interesting cover version of "Self Control" (originally by Laura Branigan). There is a bonus CD single with alternate remixes produced by Qubiq, and this 2CD set is only $10!

Lakeside X "Exit Nowhere" $16 -- Previously known as Lakeside Church, this band from the Czech Republic is one of the new shining stars in the scene, who manage to stay hidden to most of the synthpop world. Once people discover these guys, it is most likely they'll be won over and become dedicated fans. Their first album, "Sunrise" introduced the band's blend of moody lyrics and atmospheric production (similar to Leiahdorus or Northern Territories) along with subtle tributes to bands in the realm of Camouflage. But still, with a sound all their own, they create a mood that draws the listener in.

RED FLAG "Born Again" $15 -- It was relatively recently that the synthpop underground was shocked with the word of vocalist Mark's death. Red Flag understandably went through years of silence, but now re-emerge on the scene with brother and programer Chris taking all the responsibilities, including vocal duties. This new album brings back the band's darker sound as was heard on "The Crypt", "The Bitter End", or "Codebreaker T133" with a mix of melodic and haunting instrumental textures and dark yet melodic vocals.

ELECTROANOVA "Deux Ex Machina"
$15 -- This is a new import from Spain, from an act that has some really nice Spanish-language synthpop songs, blending in a retro sound with some modern electronic production elements. There are a couple of songs in English as well, like "I Close My Eyes" and "In This World".

Minerve "Love Traces" $16 -- This Minerve CD was released in Russia and is a great introduction to the band, featuring new versions of songs from the album "Sensefiction" and the single "My Universe". It's like a revamped collection of favorite songs to win over new fans, while being fun for the existing fans to collect as well. Minerve is one of the top new bands carrying on the traditional "German synthpop sound" that fits in with guys like De/Vision and Camouflage.

Split Mirrors "In London"
$18 -- This synthpoppy, italo-disco band is back with a new album, complete with very melodic, catchy tunes and those simple, fun synthesizer pop songs that made them an underground favorite in the European scene.

Blue October UK "Incoming - 10th Anniversary Edition" (2CD) -- Blue October was one of the first bands signed to A Different Drum's label, and in 2007 we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the band's first album, "Incoming". This edition has been remastered and features a bonus disc with new remixes, rare demos, and some favorite mixes and bonus tracks from the out-of-print singles! The band now uses the name Blue October UK, as they move forward with their romantic, melodic synthpop sound. Happy anniversary!

Sonictune "Tales of the Night" $16 -- Here is another cool import from Poland from a band called Sonictune, playing a great, melodic synthpop sound with a German-style tinge. They sound a bit like Distain, with some pumped up tunes that also toss in a bit of the AND ONE sound, which is quite pleasant. I think these guys should make quite a splash in the scene.

Rotersand "Ten Twenty Three (1023)" $15 -- This is the latest album by the dark, edgy synthpop / industrial dance band Rotersand, and it is named after a room number where the band stayed in a hotel in Detroit, which inspired the album, due to it's somewhat creepy, ethereal atmosphere. Funny thing is...I know EXACTLY which hotel they must be talking about, because I stayed there years ago. The hotel obviously used to be a glamorous, upper-scale, high rise hotel, but since the fall of down town Detroit has turned into a really strange place. They lease out their old ballroom (which has been painted completely black) to an industrial club, so when you walk into the marble lobby of the hotel, it sounds like a jet plane is landing in the place, with harsh beats reverberating off the walls. You have to stay a few floors up just to get away from the noise. I was with the guys from Iris at the time, and they had a hard time sleeping because the unnumbered room next to theirs was being used all night for some rather "lively" film crew making one of THOSE kinds of movies. Anyway, it was a very strange place, with certainly a sad story behind it. But anyway, that sets the tone for Rotersand's new album. Enjoy!

Bleeding Nature "Water of Days" $16 -- These guys are like the Russian version of Wolfsheim, with a cool darkwave touch to their synthpop. This is the band's newest album, with some really nice work-- more moody and lush than some of their previous work. Also, though they are from Russia, it should be noted that they sing in English!

Stillife "Remembrance and Memories" (2CD) $15 -- This appears to be another band from Russia that sings in English, though this particular release is imported from Argentina and features two disc packed with music, including the regular album, and a pile of extra remixes and songs. They have a great electronic background, with a deep male vocalist that sounds rather hypnotic.

Psyche "Club Salvation"
$15 -- Psyche seems to be excited about cranking our remix collections lately, and this one is the latest, packed with danceable favorites from the band's past and present, including versions of "The Quickening", "Goodbye Horses", "Sanctuary", "Unveiling the Secret", and more! If you want a cool, limited, independently released CD of fan favorites and club friendly material from a band that's been around the scene for 20 years, check this one out!

Null Device "Excursions" $15 -- This unique band from the US synthpop scene continues to perfect their blend of traditional electronic pop with a smooth, hypnotic blend of ethnic instrumental additions. The first track is a wonderful song that focuses on the middle-eastern drum rhythms and ethnic instrument loops, while the next song jumps right onto the dance floor with the thumping kick drum and pulsing bass line. That diversity continues back and forth through the album, with one catchy song after another, layered with different mixes of electronics and cool international music flavors. These guys are smart musicians that are not afraid to use many influences as wonderful infusions into their pop sound.

Lowe "Tenant Remixed"
(limited 2CD) $16 -- It is not as if we haven't heard remixes for the excellent songs from the stand-out debut album "Tenant" before. There were five singles released for the album, all packed with various remixes, not to mention that Polish limited edition of the album that featured a pile of remixes on a bonus disc. But here is another limited edition look at remixes of songs from "Tenant". The songs are wonderful, with hits like "Ahead of Our Time", "Hear Me Out", "Simplicity", and "The Vanishing", and now you can visit them all again with a new pile of remixes, adding up to 22 tracks. Several are mixed by Lowe themselves, while others are mixed by artists like Minerve, Rupesh Cartel, Diskodiktator, People Theatre, Colony 5, Emplosia, etc.

Conscience "Superior Fish" $14 -- This German import presents the sound of a new, fun electronic pop band that focuses on melody and traditional synthpop influences. This is one of the promising new bands on the scene, and you can hear samples of all the songs on the album right here on A Different Drum's homepage.

Cesium 137 "Proof of Life" $15 -- This very danceable band keeps building on their melodic futurepop sound with energetic electronic arrangements and catchy vocals. It's another strong album that will undoubtedly be a hit in the industrial dance clubs as well as with futurepop and synthpop fans who like a fast tempo and intense arrangements.

Rubikon "Wonderland" $16 -- From the label in Sweden that brought us the surprising debut album by Nun, we now get this nice electronic pop album by Rubikon, playing groovy tunes with ultra-smooth female vocals.

Ming and Ping "Causeway Army" $14 -- Brace yourself for another bleepy, bouncy synthpop attack with Ming and Ping's third studio album. Once again, it is loaded with ultra-synthpoppy songs that play like a blend of old-school 80's hits (including some borrowed drum patterns from the likes of New Order) and the Britpop vibe of the 90's. I'd have to say that it's the band's strongest release so far, as the production sounds crisp, and vocals have some nice layers.

Hyperbubble "Airbrushed Alibis" $12 -- Welcome to another ultra-synthy band from Texas called Hyperbubble, where really cool old-school synth sounds bounce around with bright, cutesy female vocals. It's a lot like Freezepop and should appeal to fans of that fun, light sound.

INFORMATION SOCIETY "Synthesizer" $14 -- Since the 80's, Information Society has been a pioneering band in the synthpop scene, as well as securing a place in the hearts of freestyle fans who grabbed onto the band's huge radio and club hits. After some years of silence, the band is back with Paul Robb at the production helm, creating fun, ultra-catchy electronic pop tunes with wonderful vocals from singer, Christopher Anton. "Synthesizer" recalls the exciting sounds of the past, and pushes itself toward a new generation of club-goers! Seriously, there is one would-be hit after another on this album.

RAINDANCER "Response"
$12 -- Raindancer is back with a stunning second album, building on the uptempo, energy-driven synthpop sound that was introduced on the successful "Audio" album. One memorable, catchy song follows another, and the electronic hooks infect your mind, making you want to listen again and again. This duo is rising fast in the electronic pop market, and with good reason!

Various Artists "Synthpop for a Darkened Room 4" $6 -- The melancholy, moody compilation series continues with it's forth fabulous installment, and it's the price of a single! It includes favorites from albums that are already released, as well as some songs from upcoming releases!

De/Vision "Noob" $20 -- The new De/Vision album is here (again), and it's been selling very well so far. The band seems to have pulled together a little more of their pop tendencies on this album, with stronger songs, building on their already impressive repertoire.

Various Artists "Retro Active / Rare and Remixed Vol. 6" $16 -- The exciting sixth installment of this popular 80's collectors' series is now available for pre-order! Once again, the guys at Canada's Hi-Bias label have pulled together some fun long versions that are hard to find on CD.

Distain "Raise the Level" (2CD) $16 -- This is the exciting new album from the popular synthpop band Distain. These guys have been an important part of the synthpop scene since the mid 90's, with four albums and a remix collection released up to this point, this being their fifth album. It has some really nice songs, both uptempo as well as emotional ballads. PLUS, this double-disc edition includes the "Mandragore EP" with 10 bonus tracks! There's also a fun cover version of the song "West End Girls". Don't miss it!

FANTAZJA "Help Yourself"
$12 -- The debut album from Fantazja is packed with memorable songs and catchy hooks, ready to grab the listener, and reluctant to let go. These guys focus on strong lyrics, presented in a smooth, polished fashion, ranging in mood from brooding to uptempo. There is a little something for everybody here-- sure to please synthpop diehards along with pop music fans of all varieties!

Pride and Fall "In My Time of Dying" $15 -- With the past twelve months marked by divorce, a friend's suicide, a loss in the family, and more, times have been hard for Pride and Fall, and it comes as no surprise to find that the experiences have shaped the sound, look, and feel of their latest album ”In My Time Of Dying”. But as so often happens in times of personal crisis, creative energies flourish, and the Norwegian trio has delivered a strong, polished album. While thoroughly danceable, a heavy gloom pervades many of tracks such as "The Painful Regret", "My Little" and the title track "In My Time Of Dying".

Mind In a Box "Crossroads" $15 -- Mind.In.A.Box’s debut, "Lost Alone", and the follow up "Dreamweb" garnered praise from critics for their innovative, hard to categorize sound and story concepts. Instead of simply creating songs, Mind.in.A.Box pulls you into its world, exploring themes of solitude, fear, self control, ego, and loss. "Crossroads" takes up the story and themes explored in "Dreamweb" and expand them. With their usual dense, complex electronics they masterfully create moods and atmospheres on tracks such as ”Fear” and ”The Place” and mix them with highly danceable tracks such as ”Identity”, ”What Used To Be”, and ”Introspection” to create a 65 minute musical journey. To compliment the music, Crossroads includes a 24 page booklet containing a short story, lyrics, and a code to unlock bonus content on their website.

MICHIGAN "Pulse of Pain" $14 -- Michigan presents their third album, demonstrating their strong position in the electronic pop market. If you are a fan of bands like Mesh, Iris, or even classic Depeche Mode, this CD will quickly become one of your favorites! Each song is layered with lush production, emotional vocals, and lyrical depth, lifting the album to great heights and making it one of the stand-out releases of 2007. Listen to "Pulse of Pain" and you may discover a new favorite, no matter where your tastes lie, because great music stands on it's own.

Diary of Dreams "Nekrolog 43"
$15 -- There is one thing you are always guaranteed to experience when listening to an album by Diary of Dreams, and that's a lot of drama. With pulsing electronics and thick production, combined with the deep, dark voice stylings, each song is packed with dark, somewhat gothic passion. The music may not have you smiling and dancing on the sofa, but it will fit perfectly into those moody moments in dark rooms or dark dance clubs.

Erasure "Storm Chaser" (EP) $8 -- This latest offering from the synthpop heroes Vince and Andy presents a lot of their ultra-catchy, bouncy synthpop sounds, plus a great track called "Early Bird" with a guest vocal appearance by Cyndi Lauper. There are a lot of long versions and mixes on here too. It's a great slice of synthpop goodness!

Storybox "No Dancing Allowed" $14 -- From Section 44 Records come this new electronic pop offering from the band Storybox, playing a somewhat old-school synthpop sound with pulsing beats, and little synthesizer hooks with some simple, melodic male vocals.

Isis Signum "Electro Sensual" $16 -- These guys provide a very steady stream of pulsing, electronic tunes that sound like a combination of the minimal electro-clash sound with the uptempo beats of futurepop and industrial dance. With different guest vocalists, there is usually a talky-vocal approach, featuring the likes of Sara Noxx (present on several tracks), Kindel, and Tying Tiffany. This limited edition features a bonus disc packed with 9 extra remixes.

Ashbury Heights "Three Cheers for the Newlydeads" $20 -- Imported from Germany (though the band is from Sweden), this new album features a cool 80's-influenced synthpop sound, blended with a cool darkwave mood. Lead vocals come from a talented male singer while backups are provided by a good female vocalist. Sometimes it has a vibe similar to The Birthday Massacre, but I can see it appealing to a non-gothic 80's audience.

Synthetic Division "Get With the Programs" $12 -- After the long list of European imports above, here is one from the USA. We'd stocked a debut EP by these guys some time ago, and now it's time for a new full-length! With uptempo tunes and swirling synths, this synthpop duo is ready to be discovered on the international scene.

Blue Birds Refuse to Fly "Xenomorph Angel" $20 -- This is a really pretty European import, where breathy, dreamy female vocals are layered over crisp, well produced electronics. Think of it is a more emtempo version of Pristina, with a touch Daybehavior and Delerium. Some of the songs are more poppy with catchy melodies, and some are more airy, for an atmospheric feel. It's really nice stuff.

Rename "First Bounce" $10 -- This fun collection features exclusive remixes of several favorite songs from the first two RENAME albums, plus some new songs, and a couple of rare demos. With fourteen uptempto tracks, this album is designed to bring a smile to the faces, and a spring to the step, of synthpop and club music fans around the world. When it comes to memorable and moveable pop tunes, RENAME has it mastered!

De/Vision "Da Mals" (limited 2CD) $20 -- This is a fun collection of old rarities from De/Vision's early days. This goes back to the time when the band was pushing hard to the fans of Depeche Mode and Camouflage, with obvious influences shining through. The recordings are a bit more raw than their later album releases, but that is actually the appeal of these archive recordings of early demos, remixes, and tracks that have been either hard to find (from old vinyl and rare singles) or previously unavailable. The bonus disc that comes with this limited edition is music from early band member Stefan Blender, under the name Sequence 2. Those tracks sound like early instrumental De/Vision demos.

Equatronic "Endorphine" $20 -- Hot off the presses, it's the third album from the melodic German synthpop act, Equatronic. Though these guys have never burst out of the pack during the last few years to become a big player in the scene, they have quietly maintained a healthy fan base and have created some memorable songs. This new album fits righ in with their past material.

I Synthesist "Art of Survival" $14 -- This is one of the unique voices in the synthpop market, creating a sound and style that I've always considered to be a bit of a modern Thomas Dolby. I Synthesist is creative with the synthesizer sound structures, and quirky with the melodic arrangements, but fun and catchy at the same time. This second album is already getting some attention on the worldwide synthpop scene as it follows up the popular debut album, "Avalanche", which also received high marks in the Swedish electronic market.

Bodies Without Organs / BWO "Fabricator" $26 -- The third album by this popular synth / disco act is out already, as one of the most prolific new Swedish pop acts never takes a rest. With a new single practically every month (if not two) and more remixes than I've ever seen, they keep pumping out one catchy song after another. It's a bit on the expensive side, as the major label European releases just keep getting more and more pricey for those of us in the USA.

Phenotract "Transient Messages" $10 -- We've stocked this band's last album, and several of you discovered this promising electronic act. Now with this new album, they continue to build on their sound which blends atmospheric moments with pumped, danceable beats, and half-whispered, half sung, deep vocals for a cool futurepop feel.

Point of View "Popmusik" $20 -- Another German synthpop act from the 90's is back with a new album! These guys always had a simple, classic synthpop approach, sounding sometimes like old Celebrate the Nun, but quite similar to other popular German synthpop bands as well. The songs are usually catchy, with a new mix between up-tempo and mid-tempo songs.

Freezepop "Future Future Future Perfect" $15 -- This bubbly, upbeat, fun-loving synthpop band with an airy female vocal lead and old-school synth sounds has risen in popularity even in the mainstream. With popular songs appearing in both the Dance Dance Revolution games as well as Guitar Hero, they've got the young gaming world interested. This newest album is released on a larger label, with solid national distribution, ready to invade the airwaves with happy synthpop!

Various Artists "Extended Electronics 2" (2CD) $24 -- The first volume was quite popular among fans of synthpop and futurepop. Now, this second volume assembles even more "big name" artists with a bunch of remixes and favorites. You can get good dance mixes of songs by artists like Rotersand, IAMX, Ladytron, Camouflage, Melotron, Boytronic, Seabound, etc.

B! Machine "The Falling Star" $12 -- B! Machine presents another fine collection of new songs that overflow with melancholy emotion, investigating love from it's highs to it's lows. Always lyrically poetic as well as musically hypnotic with the band's minimal electronic textures, B! Machine has become a favorite among fans of synthpop and darkwave. Explore The Falling Star and you're sure to find a new addiction.

Leemario "Synth Pop Journey" (MCD) $10 -- This fun project from Korea presents cover versions of two modern synthpop hits, translated from the original English and Spanish into Korean. "Dime Porque" by Silica Gel, and "Supernova" by Syrian are pumped up and remixed into a pop-trance frenzy with new vocals by Korean singer Leemario. It's released by a new label that is pushing modern synthpop to a whole country full of receptive club music fans!

Camouflage "Archive #01" (2CD) $30 -- This expensive little collection is for the ultra Camouflage fans who want to fill in all the little holes of their collection. It may not necessarily contain the best Camouflage tracks out there, but it certainly combs through a lot of odds and ends, from rare remixes, to old b-sides, to previously unreleased demos.

Celluloide "Naphtaline LP" $20 -- This is a fun collection of cover tracks performed by the French synthpop act that combines old-school, bleepy synthesizers with a somewhat deadpan female vocalist. They create a fun, new wave atmosphere that reminds me of the early 80's. These are all songs written by some classic acts, like The Cure, Depeche Mode, Camouflage, Boytronic, Sisters of Mercy, Dead Can Dance, etc.

Mesh "The World's a Big Place / We Collide Tour" (limited edition DVD+CD) $30 -- This is the limited, numbered collector's edition of the live DVD by Mesh which highlights their performances during the "We Collide" tour. The limited edition include an audio CD. The DVD is released in Europe, and thus is PAL format, so here in the USA / Canada, you need to have a compatible player (either one of those cheap, multi-region players, or a computer DVD-Rom drive).

Legacy of Music "Expedition" $20 -- This is the second album from the German synthpop / EBM band. We got a few copies of their re-released first album back in stock too, after it sold out very quickly. These guys like to combine traditional synthpop with some edge that can also get the industrial club fans moving.

Caisaron "Own Way" $18 -- This is another new act from Germany that plays that traditional German synthpop sound, displaying influences from acts like Camouflage, Beborn Beton, etc. But there is a nice touch as the band doubles a lot of the vocals with a female singer-- the mesh of the male and female voices is cool. It's a really nice debut album and features a nice mix of English and German language tracks.

Spetsnaz "DeadPan" (limited 2CD) $22 -- We have the limited edition of the new Spetsnaz album in stock, which features a bonus disc called "DeadAngle" that features nine extra remixes and exclusive songs. In case you aren't familiar with Spetsnaz, they are the modern incarnation of Nitzer Ebb, with a focus on pounding rhythms, pulsing bass-lines, and chanted (yelled) vocals, and occasional singing. They are the modern flag-wavers for classic EBM.

ALEXKID - Caracol: хороший пример современного минимал-техно.

N.O.H.A. - Dive In Your Life: очередной альбом от электронно-"живого" коллектива с балканскими этническими элементами, из музыки которого растут корни белорусской CHERRYVATA. Dive In Your Life

Первый трэк альбома "Give Me Back The Moments" просто так и просится стать синглом. Вокал Феликса остаётся таким же кристально чистым, разноплановым и холодноватым. Очень красивый, мягкий синт-поп walkman.gif
